Spirit in the Flesh...Removing Limiting Beliefs About Our Psyche and Our Soul... by R. L. Cecilio The
following is an excerpt:
Introduction: This
book is not about developing your psychic abilities; nor is it against your religion, or starting a new religion. However,
it is meant to free its reader from their fear of living, or dying by awakening you to the power of your spirit while still
experiencing the flesh. “We are limited in what our growth potential is by what we say we know…. Believing
is opening ourselves to unlimited possibilities. While establishing which theories to pursue, the ego of psychologically trained minds decided
it was easier to ignore the Holy Spirit as an inborn part of the human experience and pursue the study of the mind; the reason
being science will only study physical objects. This caused a separation, a division of the soul. The definition of psyche
went from soul and mind to the mind as being the primary existence of man. This was a misconception, the human experience
is that of a spiritual being (the soul) residing in a physical (the mind) body. Many theorists consider the soul to be sub-ordinate to the mind but, it is very important to acknowledge
the soul’s spirit. I believe psychology to be an admirable and necessary profession that serves individuals when they
are troubled or ill. It is not my intent to undermine them, however, psychological theories tend to label and “pigeon
hole” humankind into theories they profess to be either “normal or abnormal.” Psychological
theories are just that, theory, and are constantly being updated; their most recent theories are those dealing with spirituality
and religion that border on New Age philosophy. As a child I was raised Roman Catholic but do not practice any formal religion at present. However,
I feel religion plays an important part in the betterment of humankind. But, just as civilization began
with religion, so did many of our fears and limiting beliefs. Religions eventually became commercialized and used fear, guilt,
and shame to control their followers. The promise of the immortal soul having everlasting life in
paradise or eternal damnation in hell is predicated on obeying the holy laws of religions. These were not God’s law
but were a means to control the faithful by instilling in them a fear of God. Each religion condemned murder (except in God’s
name) and established “holy laws” to govern sex, diet, and tithe. In some religions, to break a holy law was considered
a sin that was often punishable by death. This book is not an attempt to discredit the healing work done by psychologists but is directed toward them to
prove their theory that the human psyche’ consists only of the mind is flawed. When discussing spirit,
most psychologists refer to it as a state of mind, or the Holy Spirit, as in religion. I apologize in advance to the many
psychologists and religious leaders that do recognize the spirit world in its connection to the psyche’. Spirit in the flesh defines spirit as your immortal
soul in your physical body, on its journey of experiencing life before returning to the spirit world. I am encouraging those
that hear or see spirit to speak openly of it, to come out of the closet so to speak, and in turn many more will be encouraged
to speak of their experiences. The
core message of this book is to empower you to remove all your negative limiting beliefs, and that we are all spirits in flesh
and as spirits we can communicate with God and the spirit world. Awakening our ability to do so is the
next step in the evolution of mankind. The source of my information, other than common knowledge, is based on the spirit communication
I received while in meditation. All messages from spirit are italicized to give you a clearer understanding
of God and His will for humanity. I do not profess to have been given all the answers for
I am only one of His many messengers, a small piece of a much larger puzzle. We will be able to understand the complete picture
on our return to spirit. Until then, “Do not allow
anyone, including religions or psychologists keep you from acknowledging your soul as your spirit in the flesh.”
gh
Part 0ne Chapter 1 Removing Limiting
Beliefs If you the reader
were asked to describe in detail exactly who you are and where you are from, you would probably respond with your name, address,
race, religion, phone number, and maybe even include your social security number. This is pertinent information that describes
your outer physical appearance as seen by or identifies you to others. There is also a part of you that
is unseen and experienced only by you; that is your soul and spirit. Your soul and spirit existed even before you chose to be born on earth into the human race. In doing so there were
certain conditions that had to be met. As a requirement to incarnate on earth, the planet of amnesia, your soul had to separate
from the light (the creator) by giving up its power as a spirit. Once separated, the soul entered physical life alone and
would remain in the flesh until it chose to return in spirit to the light. As a human the soul has to overcome
many obstacles and learn many lessons before returning to the world of spirit. In light, the spirit is always joyous but as
a human it learns to fear. To find joy in life it is important to experience the emotion of love. In life
the most powerful motivators known are fear and desire; unfortunately most people are motivated by fear. This “F”
word can ruin your life with a fear of living, of loving, of being, of having, of failing, and of dying. Fear is an emotion that is associated with being
disconnected from the greater reality; fear is the emotion of separation. Love is being connected to the unity of all things.
Fear; the opposite of love is a learned behavior. To overcome your fears it is important to learn how and where you acquired them, and why you hold onto them. Love, more pleasant
than fear is both instinctual, as in maternal, and learned as an emotion. Humankind is born with two innate fears, that of falling and that of sudden
loud noises, all other fears are learned. It is best to limit our fears to those that pose a threat to our existence. Family
and society usually impose the fears that are learned; psychologically they limit our beliefs of our self and our abilities. As a result of limiting beliefs many individuals
fear they are not worthy of love. Why? Because at an early age we are taught shame, and guilt, and criticism, and thus we
learn fear, anger, hate and to be critical of others. These emotions result in individuals that are afraid to make errors,
and punish their “self.” Often they may suffer from depression or low self-esteem. Darkness
is the term generally associated with depression, pain, and suffering, whereas our spirit is drawn to the light because it
is associated with love, and joy, and happiness. On earth you have free will to choose whether you live in darkness or in
the light. Now, more than any time in recent history,
people are turning to the heavens to solve earthly problems. Currently, the trend by many psychologists is to say the solution
to a client’s problem lies in “finding their soul and spirit” or to “heal their soul and spirit.”
These are ambiguous expressions that are fast becoming a “cure-all” for many emotional and relationship problems.
It is not necessary to “find your spirit” for it is never lost. What must be done is “awaken your spirit,”
for to awaken is to remember your soul’s purpose and power on its journey through physical life. This is difficult because
religion and psychology misrepresents the meaning of soul and spirit. Before it was used as the name for the study of the psyche’, Psyche was
a character found in Greek Mythology, (according to Webster’s, pertains to a fable
or legend embodying faith in the supernatural, an invented story, or an imaginary person or thing). According to the myth, Psyche
was a beauty comparable to Venus. (Cupid’s mother) After Psyche’s marriage to Cupid
they somehow became separated. Psyche was torn with doubt and wondered if her husband, Cupid, the god of love, still loved
her. She sought help from Venus, Cupid’s mother, but before helping her Venus gave Psyche’ four difficult tasks
to complete. These tasks began Psyche’s journey in search of her husband. While returning a small box of Proserpine’s
beauty to Venus, the last of the four tasks, Psyche’s curiosity tempted her to open the box and this caused her
to fall into a deep sleep. Hearing of this, Cupid hurried back to Psyche to wipe the sleep from her eyes
and was able to awaken his bride with the prick of one of his arrows. Psyche and Cupid then flew up to
Mt. Olympus to have their marriage blessed by all the gods. Once there, Jupiter, King of the Gods gave Psyche a drink
of ambrosia to make her immortal. The myth of Psyche contains many aspects of modern psychology, i.e. doubt, searching, love, temptation, faith in
the supernatural, gods, and immortality. Perhaps the similarity to the Psyche of mythology and the psyche’ that comprises
psychology lies in the search for immortality. To learn the origin of our immortal soul it is
important to first unlearn the concept psychology supports, that the psyche’s primary function is
that of mind. This is a half-truth for without spirit as a counter-balance a human cannot fully experience
the psyche’. Psychological theories have progressed from blaming love/hate relationships with our parents as the main cause
of many mental problems, to healing our inner child, to finding our spirit, to soul food and feeding chicken soup to our souls,
etc. Often, in love and other relationships psychologists will claim the soul to be the seat of emotions. In a sense,
the profession of psychology is reverting from the original Freudian and Jungian principles of treating clients, to becoming
specialists in “New Age beliefs” of healing soul and spirit. However, in therapy it is essential
to know the subject’s history and background; in this case the subject is the soul. The origin of the soul
began with spirit, in spirit, pre-intellect, for the purpose of experiencing life in physical form, and returning to the world
of spirit. As psychological jargon only addresses the mind, the physical aspect of the psyche, except for a very few, those
trained in the science of the mind have no practical knowledge or experience of spirits. To better understand
soul, the jargon used by psychologists must include its spiritual definition. To do this it is necessary
to examine the etymology of the word psyche’ as defined by Webster’s Dictionary; psyche’
(noun, the soul personified; the principle of life) [Gk. Psyche’ soul, mind] Notice, the Greeks specified psyche’
primarily as soul, secondly as mind. This would mean it was initially thought the mind was subordinate to soul. The
Greek philosopher Plato postulated, “Man has a soul in the image of One God, a soul that returns to
immortality.” This supports the original concept that the soul is immortal. Whatever their logic, psychologists selected the humanistic approach and
made the mind dominant over soul. It is understood that psychology: (the scientific
study of the mind, its activities and human behavior) branches from the schools of mystical philosophy:
(the study of beliefs regarding God, etc.) Therefore, “To know the soul you must first acknowledge it is
of spirit.” Often psychology and philosophy try to prove their importance by
opposing the supposed weakness of the other’s claim; it might be better expressed that they share an intimate bond and
are inseparable. When
used as a prefix, psyche’ first became psychology, then psychosis: (a general
term for any disorder of the mind) and its counterpart psychiatry: (the study and treatment of mental
disorders) and psychopathology: (the science or study of mental diseases). Gradually
psyche’ (the soul personified, the principle of life) was better known for its association
with mental illness than as “an immortal part of man.” This association is partially responsible for the separation
of soul and mind. An individual does not have to accept the theories of others over their own personal thoughts and
beliefs. We have free will to choose our own definition of soul and spirit; the difference is a matter of semantics. Prepare now to be awakened by your soul and spirit
as they remove the fear and limiting beliefs that have been placed on you by religion, society, and psychology. Before you
can learn this you must unlearn the restricting thoughts and judgmental words that govern your life; you can do this
by opening your heart to your spirit’s guidance.
Chapter 2 Soul-ology For new ideas new words are needed to clarify and
avoid the confusion caused from using the same term for different meanings. How
different would the world be today if, in lieu of the mind, psychologists had opted to study the soul. (spiritual and
immortal part of man) Soul-ology might have been an appropriate name. Within the definition
of soul is spirit: (immortal part of man; soul; vital force; specter; ghost; frame of mind; mental vigor,
courage; essential character; Holy Spirit; Spirits n.pl. a state of mind.) Please notice, both soul and spirit are defined as being the immortal
part of man. As nouns, soul and spirit are often used to describe the invisible and intangible parts
of a human being. Therefore, an accurate definition of the psyche’ might be, “the spirit in its physical
manifestation” or better still, “soul is the manifestation of the spirit in human form.” Since a human being is often referred to as a soul,
and each soul is spirit, instead of psychology it might have been better named spirit-ology, the study of the spirit. However,
dealing with spirit is too speculative, instead, psychologists selected to study the mind in its relation to the material
world. Psychologists generally try to avoid involving the soul and uses spirit primarily to depict essential character, mental
vigor, courage, or state of mind. The study of the psyche’ is by no means a pure science: (a systematic knowledge of natural
order or physical phenomena, truth ascertained by observation, experiment and induction) By these criteria psychology’s
concept of soul was flawed. Because the soul cannot be quantified, qualified, or observed in behavior psychologists looked
to understand human behavior in relation to the mind. Spirit was isolated still further as the soul became identified as the
ego, the id, and the libido. Why did psychologists choose to ignore the spirit of the soul? Psychologists, obsessed with studying the mind,
were wary of using the term spirit, as in Holy Spirit to avoid any controversy (with religion). They substituted
“visible world” for the material world, and “invisible or internal world” for the abstract world of
spirits. While it is true the visible world is more evident to the five senses, measuring the boundaries of the universe by
the five senses alone can only lead to the conclusion that only a material world exists; psychologists went out of there way
to avoid what is not seen. Meanwhile, scientists continued their search for answers to the unseen. With the invention of the microscope they found
there existed a Microcosm: (Miniature universe, man, regarded as the epitome of the universe, a community
symbolic of humanity as a whole) What I am suggesting is, psychologists like physicists must
open their mind, no pun intended, to the possibility that spirit (immortal part of man) has been overshadowed because
of psychology’s obsession with the mind. If an individual were to follow what psychology suggests, that the mind acts
independent of spirit, we would have no connection to God or spirit. “To know the soul you must first acknowledge it is also of spirit,
from spirit.” Prior to psychological thinking “spiritual soul” was used almost exclusively in religious
texts to describe it’s immortality and return to heaven. In romance novels soul mates have been defined as,
“a feeling of connection through a spiritual love created in heaven.” Psychologists, in dealing with clients,
may often make reference to an individual’s religion but hardly ever to their soul or spirit. Semantics changed the meaning
of psyche’ to mean “the mind.” It was then used as a pre-fix, e.g. psychosomatic: (of
mind and body as a unit, the treatment of physical diseases as having a mental origin) [Gk. Soma, body] With this new
terminology any association of soul and spirit to the psyche’ vanished completely. An illness or pain in the physical body is a conscious feeling, interpreted
by the brain from the nervous system, to inform it that the mind or body is diseased (without ease) The power of the mind
is unlimited in its connection to the body. When the mind is suffering from depression it can lower the body’s resistance
to the point of becoming ill. Many people, to avoid unpleasant situations, will develop temperatures, aches and pains, or
vomit. “What the mind suppresses; the body expresses.” In medical journals physicians documenting cases of pseudocyeses (false
pregnancy) where the desire to have a child was so strong the symptoms went full term, up to, and including
false labor. With other illnesses that required the testing of new drugs placebos had the same effects
as pharmaceuticals. Fear
is an important factor in psychosomatic illness; it can also cause death, usually by heart attack. The mere rattling of chicken
bones at someone or sticking pins into a doll is harmless but to those who are superstitious or raised in a culture that practices
voodoo it can be deadly. (From God Explains:) “It is the soul that gives up its energy, not
the carved image that takes it.” When a person with a broken bone goes to a medical doctor, the doctor may put a cast on it to heal
the break straight; but the body, not the cast, nor doctor, will mend the break. The same applies for cuts, bruises, burns
and fevers; these are not symptoms created by the mind but caused by external occurrences, and healed by the individual’s
spirit: (as previously stated, immortal part of man; Holy Spirit). It
is the Holy Spirit that creates life but the intelligence of modern science has negated God down to being
a sperm count, and DNA. When
someone is labeled brain dead the doctors are referring to the mind and its connection to the nerve system. Actually,
it is the soul’s spirit, the will to live that keeps the heart, lungs, and other organs functioning although medical
science attributes this to the neural system. After declaring a person clinically dead doctors sometime witness a miraculous
recovery; a miracle is not attributed to the mind but to the will of God. It is not my intention to undermine
medical doctors in any way for they too are of God; they may hold the power of life and death but are not gods in the true
sense of the word. Today, holistic medicine has become very popular, treating the “whole” patient;
body, mind, and spirit. Holistic doctors are not only treating the symptoms but also the cause, which may have been fear.
Juxtapose to
psychology, in many eastern cultures it is generally accepted that humans are “spiritual beings in a physical
body.” The body, mind and spirit are considered to be one, holistic, with more emphasis placed on the spiritual
than the physical. Western cultures emphasize that life is based on physical and material happiness, and in its effort to
minimize any spiritual connection psychology refers to the body, mind, and soul, as the conscious, sub-conscious and super
conscious. Examination
of a soul is difficult because it does not appear in autopsies; neither does the mind. A soul does not occupy a quantitative
space in the human body yet exercises its power throughout the body. The heart, (which is said to be the link to God) is visible
but it is an organ. Likewise the brain is visible but the mind is not; the reason being the mind is a function of the brain,
a consciousness: (the faculty by which we know right from wrong). The brain is comprised of two hemispheres, the left brain, which deals with
intellect and logic, and the right brain, (where spirit resides) which deals with creativity, emotion, and intuition.
Perhaps psychiatrist Carl Jung was referring to spirit when he conceive the theory of “Collective Unconscious,”
asserting that from it arose many forms of psychic phenomena. That is a misnomer, he might have better named it the “Collective,
or Spiritual Consciousness.” When a person is traumatized it is spirit that initiates a spark to inspire the mind to desire
a needed change. Edgar Cayce claimed, “The mind is the builder, the physical is the result.”
e.g. “First comes the thought, then comes the action,” “Change your mind (consciousness) and your butt (physical)
will follow” and “If you want to change your life, change your attitude.” Simply stated,
“The body follows the mind, the mind follows the spirit.”
